Topical guides

Manifesting its commitment to participate in the dissemination of knowledge related to the field of conservation and restoration and related areas of research, the CICRP regularly publishes topical guides for different audiences and for cultural heritage professionals.
These guides are produced by the CICRP’s technical and scientific teams, enlisting the assistance of specialists in certain subjects whenever necessary.

General guides

The CICRP's general guides have to do with fundamental concepts in conservation, restoration and research related to these fields.

Practical guides

Geared towards individuals responsible for the conservation of cultural property, the CICRP's practical guides present methodological approaches that may be used to shed light on certain issues and aid the actors involved in their strategic planning or in conducting certain operations, depending on their skills and expertise. Under no circumstances may they be considered as instruction manuals. Wherever applicable, the guides specify which operations require the assistance of specialists.

Technical and scientific guides

By providing overviews of various issues in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration, the CICRP's technical and scientific guides contribute to the sum of knowledge in relation to customs and practices, especially with respect to research.

With its 75 definitions and 117 illustrations, this glossary constitutes an outstanding document on stone deterioration. It includes terms related to stone material as an individual element within a built object or sculpture, and describes deterioration patterns observable by the naked eye.
The glossary is the result of 8 years of research, including careful examination of pre-existing glossaries, selection of appropriate terms and illustrations, elaboration of definitions and translation into French. The 35 authors, volunteer experts for the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for Stone (ICOMOS-I.S.C.S.) originate from 19 countries all over the world.
The I.S.C.S. glossary constitutes an important tool for scientific discussions on decay phenomena and processes. It is also an excellent basis for tutorials on stone deterioration. (Link to the web site of ICOMOS).
