Areas of specialisation

Specialist in stone, mortars and architectural heritage conservation:

Analysis of mineral materials (mineralogy, petrology)
Evaluation of alterations in ancient stone and mortars
Development, optimisation and evaluation of conservation methods for sculpture and built heritage (waterproofing, reinforcement, casting, desalinisation, cleaning assessment, cost and longevity analysis of repairs, etc.)

Docteur de l'Université Paris VII (Applied Geology) in 1989.

Research programmes

In connection with his missions on behalf of the CICRP, Philippe Bromblet participates in the following research programmes:

Medistone
Alteration of stones due to the crystallisation of soluble salts (in french)
BOS project: Boron, oxygen and sulphur isotope tracing of internal and external sulphate sources involved in the deterioration of French stone monuments
Conservation of plasters and lining material of the walls in Meknès (Morocco)
Characterisation and conservation of the "pierre du Midi" (Burdigalian sandstone)
Study of ancient paints and plasters found in archaeological digs in Marseille

External activities

Courses and seminars taught in various institutions: I.N.P., I.F.R.O.A., French architecture schools, Centre des Hautes Etudes de l'Ecole de Chaillot, Ecole du Louvre, European University Centre for Cultural Heritage (Ravello, Italy), Master Sciences et Génie de l'Environnement – S.G.E. (specialisation Matériaux du Patrimoine dans l'Environnement – MAPE (Paris VII, Paris XII and the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées).

Member of the Stone Durability technical commission of the Centre Français de l'Anticorrosion (CEFRACOR), of the Stone and Plaster group of the S.F.I.I.C. (the French section of the IIC), French representative of Working Group 3 of Technical Commission 346 of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN/TC 346/WG 3, "Evaluation of methods and products for conservation works"), co-leader of the national mirror group GE3/AFNOR. Participated in the preparation of an English/French glossary on stone deteriorations as a member of the International Scientific Committee for Stone (ISCS) of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
