The database "Insects of the Cultural heritage" focusing on the hazardous insects for patrimonial artworks is now on line: www1.montpellier.inra.fr/CBGP/insectes-du-patrimoine/.
This database both implemented by the CICRP and the INRA gathers the most concerned insect (pests) found in cultural heritage. These insects present a serious threat for the cultural preservation of the assets such as collections of museums, funds of libraries and files, movable objects and immovable objects in historical buildings...
It is an easy tool enabling the recognition and the identification of the insects of concerns. It also allows undertaking the required actions against the infestations very promptly. This database is addressed to any professional in charge of the conservation of cultural heritage along with any other professional and scientist concerned or interested by these questions.
This three-day symposium represents the culmination of a collaborative research program between the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), the Centre Interrégional de Conservation et Restauration du Patrimoine (Interregional Centre for Heritage Preservation and Restoration, CICRP, Marseille) and the Musée Picasso in Antibes. It will be the first to deeply delve into the making of early house paints (and other non-artists' paints) and the meanings associated with their use by artists before 1950. Studies of Ripolin® brand house paint, said to have been used extensively by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) and his contemporaries will receive special attention.
