- Identification of insects and fungi
- Research and studies on the biology and life cycle of these organisms
- Collection of insect specimens on heritage sites and entomological and mycological reference collections
- Research contributing to the understanding of the sources of infestation and contamination
- Development and adaptation of methods to combat infestation by these organisms, both curative (type of treatment and product) and preventive (establishment of prevention systems)
- Recommendations and assistance for the treatment and preventive conservation of works
External activities
Participation in technical training sessions offered to individuals responsible for the conservation of collections and to restorers.

Research and publications
Fabien Fohrer participates in the following research programmes of the CICRP's Preventive Conservation Department:
- Creation of a data basis about "insects and Cultural heritage" (page in french)
- Infestation and reinfestation of relining adhesive used for easel paintings by Stegobium paniceum (see the page devoted to StegoSIG)
- Substitute for ethylene oxide gas to be used in the disinfection of cellulosic materials
- Substitute for methyl bromide gas to be used in the disinsectisation of heritage collections
Fabien Fohrer participated in the development of the teacher's guide accompanying the educational CD-ROM "L'Affaire Stégobium".
